I'm Sorry -HakuZabu-

I know I wasn't there
When you needed me the most
I know I didn't care
And was afraid to get so close
Tonight it's getting hard to fall asleep
'Cause it's becoming clear that I broke all into pieces
And I can not reverse it
So I've got one more thing to say


  Brown eye’s looked up in adoration, staring at the only man who had ever shown him anything close to kindness.  
  “Haku, stop slacking off.”  the young boy was shocked back into reality, the sharp order stinging in his ears.  He turned back slowly to the weapon he was supposed to be sharpening, trying to keep one eye locked on the man.
  “Yes, Zabuza.”  he responded quietly, his feminine voice a gentle lilt.  

I'm sorry for your pain

For all the little things I didn't know
I'm sorry for the words I didn't say

I'm still loving you


Haku lifted a slender hand to brush his long bangs out of his face, his fingers brushing against his mist village headband.  He frowned, he didn’t belong to that village…he truly belonged to the man sitting across from him.  He loved everything about that man, from the spiky brown hair to the expression of pure murder that was constantly painted across his face.  But he would never really understand.  No matter how many times Haku proved that he would do anything for him, somehow Zabuza still didn’t understand.  Haku suppressed the sigh that tried to escape from his perfectly sculpted lips.  He glanced again at his master, noticing the strange emotion that was currently plaguing the mans face.  

I know I let you wait
I've been away for far too long
But now I can relate
To everything that I did wrong
Stop breathing when I think I'm losing you
And there'll be no excuse so I'm on my knees
So listen please
Let me hold your hand once again



  “Zabuza-sensei?  Is something troubling you?”  he asked quietly, cocking his head to one side curiously.
  “No, Haku.  Everything is fine.”  Zabuza replied, not even looking at the boy who was so concerned for him.  Haku dropped his eyes and bit his lip, trying to squash the urge to hug the man and try to make him forget whatever it was that brought such pain to his eyes.  “Come to me, Haku.”  the  boy jumped up immediately, but kept his pace slow as he approached.  
  “Yes, Zabuza?”  he said, still in a voice just above a whisper.  Haku gasped as Zabuza arms shot out and surrounded him in a bone crushing hug.  He sat tensely for a moment, his mind just seconds behind the action.  Slowly though, he began to relax, turning his head into the strong chest he was held so tightly against.  Neither man nor boy spoke as they sat in the fading sunlight, feeling each others warmth.  If only you knew… Haku thought as the light faded and the two were swallowed by darkness.

  Zabuza stared at the cold and still form laying beside him in the pool of blood.  His and Haku’s…combined, as it should have been long before it had been spilled.  He was aware of Kakashi and the rest of team seven standing somewhere close by but after listening to everything the copy ninja had told him, he couldn’t find it in himself to care.  How long had he been in love with Haku, and unaware that the beautiful boy had felt the same way.  He winced as he dragged one finger up to brush against the pale cheek.  
  “I never knew…”  he mumbled hoarsely.  He knew the kind of person Haku was…so pure and bright.  As good hearted as was possible.  And he also knew that he himself had no hope of meeting him on the other side.  The thought brought tears to his eyes.  He wished more then anything that he had just one more day with the boy, one more day to drop his cold and harsh façade and admit the feeling that he could feel coursing through every single vein in his body.  
  “But then again…”  he said quietly as he felt his heart stutter and his breath begin to become strained, “You never knew either…”
